Independent Study: Figure Sculpture

This is for those interested in studio access without instruction. Anyone enrolling must adhere to EAC’s studio policies on materials, clean-up, and entrance and exit procedures. Prerequisite: students enrolled in Independent Study must have completed one Figure Sculpture class at EAC. Time depends on class schedules and will be determined in the first week of class.

Course Description:

Learn to create abstract 3D art forms by exploring non-objective, organic and figurative themes. Stoneware clay, along with metal, glass, and found objects may be used. Instruction in slab and coil building techniques will be investigated. Some sculpture experience is recommended. This class will use two specific stoneware clays with grog added for stability.

Evening Figure Sculpture Ages 16+

Course Description:

No previous sculpting experience is necessary as many of the fundamentals will be reviewed as needed by instructor based on previous teaching of Sheila Oettinger, Barbara Goldsmith and Shengsheng Xu over the past two decades at EAC. Explore your particular style while considering the form and proportions and gesture of the model’s pose.“Please bring a sketchbook for 5 or 6 quick sketches to start each class and for studies of each pose.
