Course Description:

Have you ever wanted to sculpt a portrait from a live model? In this fun and challenging class, using water-based clay, you will learn classical sculpting skills including building a basic armature, recognizing the planes of the head, plus placing and modeling facial features. Lessons will include presentations of old master and contemporary portrait sculptors as well as demonstrations, explanations of anatomical structures, and individual instruction. Work realistically or more abstractly. All levels welcome.

The Figure: Real Or Imagined Ages 16+

Course Description:

Learn to create abstract 3D art forms by exploring non-objective, organic and figurative themes. Stoneware clay, along with metal, glass, and found objects may be used. Instruction in slab and coil building techniques will be investigated. Some sculpture experience is recommended. This class will use two specific stoneware clays with grog added for stability.

Bring richness, color and depth to your paintings. Using a limited palette inspired by color theory, implement techniques such as layering, optical mixture, broken brushstroke and glazing to create complex, expressive color. Learn about materials and techniques in the medium of your choice including: gouache, acrylic, and oil while constructing paintings with a variety of subject matter, highlighting composition, color, gesture, and line.
