SURFACE TENSION: BEAUTY AND FRAGILITY IN LAKE MICHIGAN

Nelson Armour and Ted Glasoe collaborate in this traveling exhibition designed to provoke viewers into considering the hidden but profound threats to the health of Lake Michigan. Glasoe’s poignant photographs, which contemplate the lake’s power and beauty, are juxtaposed in pairs with Armour’s altered photographs, which unsettle the viewer and illustrate the lake’s fragility.

As a process painter, Ortiz’s goal is to create a poetically contemporary landscape that captures an array of subtle shapes, textures, gestures, light and vibrant color relationships derived from the tradition of abstraction. This exploration is executed by juxtaposing colorful expressive brushstrokes with patches of flat spaces for contemplation, and randomly framing areas by the use of a silhouetted images, e.g. a tree, flora.  These images are derived from photocopies of photographs taken on walks during trips or around town.

The Evanston Art Center’s Winter Arts & Crafts Expo is one of the largest and most celebrated craft shows in the Chicago area. The 15th annual Expo will feature original arts and crafts by over 100 selected artisans, featuring works of jewelry, ceramics, fiber, metal, glass, painting, photography, mixed-media, and more.
