What is abstract? Students are encouraged to work in series, giving you the ability to evolve through an investigation of your own work. You will be introduced to methods to learn abstraction while exploring personal expression. These new skills enrich and bring a sense of order to paintings, giving you the confidence to develop an exciting and cohesive body of work.

Anatomy and Drawing the Figure Ages 16+

Course Description:

Knowledge of anatomy is essential for artists to depict the human form convincingly in portraiture, figurative, historical and genre paintings. This course is designed to give artists a thorough anatomical understanding of the human body.  Each class will begin with a lecture to explain and clarify the anatomical information.  Students will then draw from the live model incorporating the lessons of the day and learn to interpret anatomical subtleties from life.  

Beginning and Intermediate Oil Painting Ages 16+

Course Description:

This is a multi-level painting class where you will learn the basic techniques of oils. We explore color theory, mixing, multiple mediums, and various applications in several fun exercises. New students follow the class syllabus and continuing students work on individual projects with class and instructor feedback.

Bring 18” x 24”, or larger, piece of drawing paper and charcoal to 1st class.

Paint Your World Ages 16+

Course Description:

Explore the world through your sketchbook. Learn to render textures in pen and ink, watercolor, and gouache on both white and toned paper. Record your travels in visual form. Discover both natural and urban subject matter. We will work both en plein air and in the classroom. Look forward to a couple of field trips.

Beginning and Intermediate Drawing Ages 16+

Course Description:

This class is a natural next step for students looking to continue studying the drawing process. It is perfect for anyone who has taken a beginning drawing course recently or years ago. Using both color and black and white mediums, we will re-examine the fundamentals and begin to apply them to the next level. A variety of techniques and styles will be discussed and pursued through direct observation and personal expression.

Advanced Portrait Study with Model Ages 16+

Course Description:

In this class, we focus on colored portraits to gain a deep understanding of skin tones. We practice color combinations and values while developing our technical skills by reviewing proportions and dimensions. Students are welcome to use any dry materials such as charcoal, pastel, colored pencil,...etc!

Participants are required to have the basic understanding of portrait foundation.

Self Portraits: Drawing and Painting Ages 16+

Course Description:

You will learn about both drawing AND painting techniques in this semi-traditional self-portraiture class. Self-portraits can be challenging, but that is part of what makes them worthwhile! A self-portraiture practice has many merits for an artist, if you have a self-portraiture practice you will always have a subject to explore, plus you might very well learn something about yourself along the way!

Open Figure Drawing Studio

Course Description:

Participants must have previously completed one EAC painting or drawing class. Figure Studio offers participants the opportunity to work in their choice of media and study the nude. Poses range from one to thirty minutes. Instruction is not included; a classroom monitor will lead the class.
