Course Description:

Collaging, or ‘faking’ photographs by combining multiple images has been around as long as photography itself!  In this class, you will be introduced to different ways of creating and combining images, from analog methods to digital tools, like scanning and Photoshop. This class is primarily based in photographic methods, but we will be working with other media as well.

Youth Intro to Ceramics Ages 13-17

Course Description:

Learn the basics using both the wheel and hand-building techniques. Wheel techniques will begin with simpler forms including a cylinder, bowl, and plate leading into more in-depth processes. Hand building will include pinch pots, coil, and slab. You will receive direction and encouragement to expand on areas of your own interest.

Drawing and the Sketchbook Ages 13-18

Course Description:

There is a long history of artists exploring and developing ideas using the sketchbook. In this class, students will use the sketchbook to learn core drawing techniques. Using pencil, pen/ink, and watercolor, they will discover the ways sketchbooks can be used to create finished drawings as well as for brainstorming new works of art. Former students are welcome as we will explore new projects.

Teen Acrylic Class: Painting in the Style of Great Artists Age 13-18

Course Description:

Use the painting techniques of various well-known artists as a jumping-off point for your own work. Develop your acrylic painting skills while learning how various artists stylistically approach painting. Some of the artists we will look to for inspiration will include Frida Kahlo, Vincent van Gogh, Chuck Close, and Gustav Klimt.

The Handmade Book: Intro to Artist Books Ages 13-18

Course Description:

The Handmade Book is a studio-based, hands-on course focused on making artist books from start to finish. You create 2-3 completed books while learning foundational hand-binding skills, working with found books, and experimenting with mixed media and structure. Projects include a Coptic stitch bound book, a transformed found book using cutting, collage, and erasure, and a final self-directed artist book. This is a making-intensive course with guided demonstrations, open studio time, and individual support. No prior experience required.

Beginning Screen Printing for Teens Ages 13-18

Course Descrioption:

If you are new to either art making or screen printing—or you appreciate analog art forms like embroidery or film photography—this class is for you. 

You will learn to photo expose screens and play with images and inks to make prints. You can make a lot of them quickly, each one with slight imperfections that make it unique. Plan to play and make a few mistakes and messes along the way. You’ll have help and examples to guide you to a finished project meaningful to you.
