Pen & Ink Plein Air in Chicago
Course Description:
Venture outdoors to the Montrose Bird Sanctuary and the Caldwell Lily Pool and create Plein Air drawings and paintings. Students will create artwork from nature and occasional buildings/architectural structures and elements. For materials you’ll experiment with micron pens, brush pens, gel pens, additional pens and sketching materials. After sketching, students are invited to continue with a pen and/or incorporate watercolor paints into their compositions.
Skill Level: Intermediate
Beginning and Intermediate Drawing Ages 16+
Course Description:
This class is a natural next step for students looking to continue studying the drawing process. It is perfect for anyone who has taken a beginning drawing course recently or years ago. Using both color and black and white mediums, we will re-examine the fundamentals and begin to apply them to the next level. A variety of techniques and styles will be discussed and pursued through direct observation and personal expression.

World Building and Illustration
Course Description:
This is a semi-traditional illustration class that will equip students with a repertoire of skills to develop successful illustrations. Students will learn to create their own worlds, characters, and personal styles that can effectively communicate story and theme while applying the elements of art. They will study the use of color and its connection to theme, learn different drawing techniques, use a variety of media, and experiment with stylistic choices.

Independent Study: Figure Sculpture
This is for those interested in studio access without instruction. Anyone enrolling must adhere to EAC’s studio policies on materials, clean-up, and entrance and exit procedures. Prerequisite: students enrolled in Independent Study must have completed one Figure Sculpture class at EAC. Time depends on class schedules and will be determined in the first week of class.
Open Figure Drawing Studio
Course Description:
Participants must have previously completed one EAC painting or drawing class. Figure Studio offers participants the opportunity to work in their choice of media and study the nude. Poses range from one to thirty minutes. Instruction is not included; a classroom monitor will lead the class.

Portrait Study
Course Description:
Have you ever wanted to sculpt a portrait from a live model? In this fun and challenging class, using water-based clay, you will learn classical sculpting skills including building a basic armature, recognizing the planes of the head, plus placing and modeling facial features. Lessons will include presentations of old master and contemporary portrait sculptors as well as demonstrations, explanations of anatomical structures, and individual instruction. Work realistically or more abstractly. All levels welcome.
Adaptive Ceramics
Course Description:
Adaptive ceramics is a starting point for everyone that may be apprehensive, allowing students to become comfortable and familiar with clay. Grow, learn, and become confident in what you create. Working with clay in both hand building and wheel throwing reduces anxiety. Patience with yourself and others is encouraged.

Pinch, Slab, Coil: Ceramic Handbuilding
Course Description:
Learn pinch, coil, and slab techniques to create a variety of projects ranging from functional vessels to sculptural forms, figures, and tiles. Paint and carve while exploring with slips and glazes. Historical and contemporary artists will be introduced for inspiration. More advanced students will be encouraged to hone their skills and develop projects.
