Adaptive ceramics is a starting point for everyone that may be apprehensive, allowing students to become comfortable and familiar with clay. Grow, learn, and become confident in what you create. Working with clay in both hand building and wheel throwing reduces anxiety. Patience with yourself and others is encouraged.

Learn pinch, coil, and slab techniques to create a variety of projects ranging from functional vessels to sculptural forms, figures, and tiles. Paint and carve while exploring with slips and glazes. Historical and contemporary artists will be introduced for inspiration. More advanced students will be encouraged to hone their skills and develop projects.

For students with some experience in throwing and hand-building, add to your repertoire of form and technique. Throw “larger,” adding appendages to pots, and altering thrown forms. Explore form and function, as well as shape and design of ceramic pieces.
