Course Description:
Exploring the historic Uncial hand with the broad-nib Pilot Parallel Pen, we appreciate the rich history of the scribes and place ourselves in their noble tradition, transcribing the ancient texts that otherwise would have been lost to the ages. In our Contemplative Calligraphy practice, the rhythmic movement of the pen on paper can become a moving meditation. Practical instruction on slant, spacing, and negative space – all aspects of depicting beautiful writing are introduced in this Beginning-level class.
Continuing Contemplative Calligraphy Ages 16+
Course Description:
While learning to create beautiful writing with the broad-nib Pilot Parallel Pen, we will also be cultivating a peaceful practice that has brought equanimity and calm to calligraphers throughout the ages. The rhythmic movement of the pen on paper can become a moving meditation. Starting with the Foundational hand and progressing to Italic, practical aspects such as instruction on slant, spacing, and the importance of negative space, plus an overview of the historical context of hand lettering will be presented.
Experimenting with Watercolor Basics
Course Description:
This fun and creative approach to watercolor painting is an exciting way to get started with the media or to enhance and expand your current knowledge. Enjoy learning many basic techniques including wet-into-wet washes, wet-into-dry washes, glazing, color mixing, graduated/flat washes, value studies, and more. Dry pencils/wet pencils, layering of color, creating color, shading, sketching, washing, lifting, lighting, and composition will be part of our weekly class.

Course Description:
Explore new ways to appreciate nature and wildlife through art and illustration as you learn basic introductions in artmaking. Learning techniques of drawing, sketching from life, sketching from reference, observing, and appreciating. Each student will utilize these skills to make an original piece by the end of the course.
