Beginning students should purchase a beginner's pottery set from a local store.

For students with some experience in throwing and hand-building, add to your repertoire of form and technique. Throw “larger,” adding appendages to pots, and altering thrown forms. Explore form and function, as well as shape and design of ceramic pieces.

Learn pinch, slab, and coil techniques to create a variety of projects from functional vessels to sculptural forms, figures, and tiles. Explore carving and painting with slips and glazes. More experienced students can explore altering their pieces and honing their skills. Historical and contemporary artists will be introduced for inspiration. Beginning and intermediate level students are welcome.

This course will focus on the fundamentals of constructing multi-part vessels, as well as showcasing small demos each week of different gifts you can give to your friends and family! The skills you'll acquire in this course will help improve skills such as pulling handles, throwing off the hump, and making lidded forms. This class is for experienced wheel throwers only. This is not a class for students with little experience.

Course Description:

This is for those interested in studio access without instruction. Anyone enrolling must have a studio orientation with the Ceramics Studio Coordinator and adhere to EAC’s studio policies on materials, clean-up, and entrance and exit procedures. Prerequisite: students enrolled in Independent Study must have completed one ceramics class at EAC. Time depends on class schedule and will be determined in the first week of class.
