Course Description:

Learn and advance your throwing skills and glazing technique. This course will focus on the fundamentals of constructing multi-part vessels, as well as showcasing small demos each week of different gifts you can give to your friends and family! The skills you'll acquire in this course will help improve skills such as pulling handles, throwing off the hump, and making lidded forms. This class is for experienced wheel throwers only. This is not a class for students with little experience.

Course Description:

This is for those interested in studio access without instruction. Anyone enrolling must have a studio orientation with the Ceramics Studio Coordinator and adhere to EAC’s studio policies on materials, clean-up, and entrance and exit procedures. Prerequisite: students enrolled in Independent Study must have completed one ceramics class at EAC. Time depends on class schedule and will be determined in the first week of class.

Color Theory: A Complete Color Guide

Course Description:

In this three-session workshop, you’ll explore the foundations of color theory as both an art and a science. Through hands-on exercises and guided practice, you’ll learn how colors mix, match, and contrast, while gaining a deeper understanding of value, hue, chroma, and temperature. We’ll learn about different color systems (CMYK, RGB, HSB, grayscale), experiment with shade, tone, and tint, and practice strategies for color dominance and harmony.

Course Description:

Draw and paint outside the Caldwell Lily Pool, Lincoln Park Conservatory or Garfield Park Conservatory. Work in drawing mediums and or watercolors and watercolor pencils. Focus includes instruction on creating quick thumbnail sketches, composition, and color. Dress appropriately for changing weather, sun, and insect protection.

Make Sculpture: Cardboard

Course Description:

Make sculpture from inexpensive, ephemeral materials. Students have been successful making birds, trees, bugs, any form. This workshop follows a successful 2 day workshop conducted at Allerton Park, University of Illinois, October, 2025. Visual resources will be at workshop while students are encouraged to bring their own cardboard.
