In Art Club, you'll get to play around with all kinds of materials and supplies in the Youth Fine Arts studio each week. Not only will we learn a lot of artmaking principles and elements of design by MAKING art, we'll have the MOST fun doing it!

Youth Intro to Ceramics Ages 13-17

Course Description:

Learn the basics using both the wheel and hand-building techniques. Wheel techniques will begin with simpler forms including a cylinder, bowl, and plate leading into more in-depth processes. Hand building will include pinch pots, coil, and slab. You will receive direction and encouragement to expand on areas of your own interest.

Drawing and the Sketchbook Ages 13-18

Course Description:

There is a long history of artists exploring and developing ideas using the sketchbook. In this class, students will use the sketchbook to learn core drawing techniques. Using pencil, pen/ink, and watercolor, they will discover the ways sketchbooks can be used to create finished drawings as well as for brainstorming new works of art. Former students are welcome as we will explore new projects.

Nature Drawing in Colored Pencil on Film Ages 16+

Course Description:

Using film instead of paper opens up new ways of using colored pencils. The smooth surface allows for less layering but more detail- making it ideal for fur and feather textures. The ability to work on both sides also gives depth of color ideal for botanical subjects. Discover the possibilities through experimentation and exploration before moving onto refined drawings.

Figure and Nature: Drawing and Painting

Course Description:

Practice drawing techniques via lectures, warm-up drawings, and longer finished poses. Techniques may include gesture and organizational line, contour line, shape-plane-volume-modeling, value, foreshortening, and anatomical studies. We will work from a clothed model and have critiques to provide a supportive class response. Choose to work in drawing and/or painting mediums.

Paint your Travels: Watercolor or Acrylics

Each landscape has a feel all its own. We will look at how a variety of artists have depicted landscapes in their paintings, and each week be prompted by a topic(such as atmospheric perspective, painting distressed streets and walls, painting bodies of water). Whether you are painting in your own back yard or in a variety of travel locations, we will hone our observational skills, learn new techniques, and work with appropriate color palettes.
