Course Description:

Oil pastels can enhance vibrancy and expressiveness in your work by combining the directness of drawing with the visceral texture of oil paint. You will explore the intricacies of this unique medium and harness optical and physical blending, soft washes, impasto, and sgraffito applications to create works across a variety of subject matters including still life, landscape,  and portraiture.

Anatomy and Drawing the Figure Ages 16+

Course Description:

Knowledge of anatomy is essential for artists to depict the human form convincingly in portraiture, figurative, historical and genre paintings. This course is designed to give artists a thorough anatomical understanding of the human body.  Each class will begin with a lecture to explain and clarify the anatomical information.  Students will then draw from the live model incorporating the lessons of the day and learn to interpret anatomical subtleties from life.  

Beginning and Intermediate Oil Painting Ages 16+

Course Description:

This is a multi-level painting class where you will learn the basic techniques of oils. We explore color theory, mixing, multiple mediums, and various applications in several fun exercises. New students follow the class syllabus and continuing students work on individual projects with class and instructor feedback.

Bring 18” x 24”, or larger, piece of drawing paper and charcoal to 1st class.

Paint Your World Ages 16+

Course Description:

Explore the world through your sketchbook. Learn to render textures in pen and ink, watercolor, and gouache on both white and toned paper. Record your travels in visual form. Discover both natural and urban subject matter. We will work both en plein air and in the classroom. Look forward to a couple of field trips.

This class is a natural next step for students looking to continue studying the drawing process. It is perfect for anyone who has taken a beginning drawing course recently or years ago. Using both color and black and white mediums, we will re-examine the fundamentals and begin to apply them to the next level. A variety of techniques and styles will be discussed and pursued through direct observation and personal expression.

Find your voice as an artist!

Work on the project of your choice in a welcoming environment with fellow artists. Get ideas and encouragement in moving your creations forward. Aspects of composition, value, and color will be discussed and demonstrated. Students may work from a photo, a still life, or from pure imagination.

This class is open to all painting and drawing media.
