Bookbinding: Basics and Beyond Ages 16+

Course Description:

Learn the materials and methods of bookbinding, and make a variety of handmade books. Starting with folded books and pamphlet stitch, students will gradually hone their skill and continue on to more complex books. You will complete eight or more books over the course of the session, books that can be used as journals or given as gifts! 

Repeaters of the course will practice learning new skills alongside new binders, honing their craft.

Loose and Free Beginning Watercolor: An Unconventional Approach Ages 16+

Course Description: 

You will learn the basics as well as freeing techniques that will help you stay loose and take advantage of "happy accidents", the gift of watercolor.  You will learn a variety of ways of mixing colors on the brush, on the palette and on the paper using freeing approaches such as tilting, spraying and lifting. You will be guided by mini demos,  consequtive skill building exercises, individual mentoring, class sharing and gentle critique. Appropriate for brand new beginners as well as returning students who want to loosen up.

The Art of Line: Mindful Drawing for Observation & Expression

This course introduces a line-based method of observation to express structure, proportion, and relationships using intentional line work. Through guided observation exercises and simple line practice rooted in traditional Chinese art methodology, students develop line sensitivity, control, and the ability to construct form with clarity and intention.

Get outside and draw! Take advantage of Summer with this outdoor observational drawing class. You will be led on drawing excursions in and around Evanston to learn to draw the urban landscape. Elements of linear perspective, observational drawing, and color will be brought together in this unique class. Alternate indoor locations will be used in the event of inclement weather.
