Master the ins and outs of colored pencils to render realistic and expressive depictions of the world around you. Focus on mark-making, various techniques for layering color, the importance of light, shadow, and color theory, and the rendering of textures across a variety of still life objects.

Individual coaching on the drawing and painting aspects of portrait painting. Focus on developing your drawing skills only or develop your abilities to render the model in color. Bring drawing and or painting materials of your choice to the first class for poses lasting 2 to 3 weeks.

Oil pastels can enhance vibrancy and expressiveness in your work by combining the directness of drawing with the visceral texture of oil paint. You will explore the intricacies of this unique medium and harness optical and physical blending, soft washes, impasto, and sgraffito applications to create works across a variety of subject matters, including still life, landscape, and portraiture.

Knowledge of anatomy is essential for artists to depict the human form convincingly in portraiture, figurative, historical and genre paintings. This course is designed to give artists a thorough anatomical understanding of the human body. Each class will begin with a lecture to explain and clarify the anatomical information. Students will then draw from the live model incorporating the lessons of the day and learn to interpret anatomical subtleties from life.
