Discover how a basic sewing machine can add embellishment and dimension to fabric in your creative projects. Learn sewing techniques like fiber couching, thread sketching, applique, and techniques to add texture to fabric with ruffles, pleating, layered cutting, and controlled crumpling.

Course Description:

Learn how to sew! Find out how to use a sewing machine, from winding a bobbin and threading the machine to troubleshooting common issues. Students will explore basic stitches, machine settings, and sewing techniques while completing a simple tote bag in class.

Snip, tear and assemble your way through the expressive medium of collage. Create compositions using a variety of papers and techniques to gather images, shapes and colors. To inspire your work, themes such as quotes, poems, landscape and personal imagery will be shared.

Starting with folded books and pamphlet stitch, students will gradually hone their skill and continue on to more complex books. You will complete eight or more books over the course of the session, books that can be used as journals or given as gifts! 

Repeaters of the course will practice learning new skills alongside new binders, honing their craft.

Paper Mache Sculpture: Form and Structure introduces paper mache as a versatile medium for constructing three-dimensional forms, whether representational or abstract. We will explore armature construction, layering methodologies, and surface development through hands-on projects. The course emphasizes structural integrity, balance, texture, and experimental approaches to form-making.

Course Description:

Building upon the information, tools, and techniques covered in the Basic Woodworking class or for new students with previous woodworking experience. Students will continue working on current projects as well as beginning new ones approved by the instructor. Understanding wood and wood movement, purchasing raw lumber, furniture joinery, finishing techniques, and a thorough understanding of hand and power tools in today’s woodworking shops will be explored. Students will be expected to purchase their own materials for their projects.

Course Description:

Includes a comprehensive review of tools and techniques for beginning wood workers. Hand and Power tools, joinery, and finishes with be explored. You are encouraged to purchase and fabricate at least one woodworking project. Students are responsible for purchasing their own materials including Wood, glass, hardware, and any other items needed for their piece[s].
