In my paintings I try to extract as much as I can from what I see. If I unconsciously step beyond the purely visual world it is to exalt the subject matter almost as a writer creates a heroine. In order to paint successfully there must be a constant engagement of feeding my desire to paint and being a servant to what I am looking at. Both are locked together until the painting fully becomes an interesting picture
