Color Exploration: Studio Painting
Course Description:
Bring richness, color and depth to your paintings. Using a limited palette inspired by color theory, implement techniques such as layering, optical mixture, broken brushstroke and glazing to create complex, expressive color. Learn about materials and techniques in the medium of your choice including: gouache, acrylic, and oil while constructing paintings with a variety of subject matter, highlighting composition, color, gesture, and line. This class is recommended for students who have previous experience in the fundamentals of painting.
Painting the Portrait in Oils Ages 16+
Course Description:
Culminating in a six hour pose, this course is designed to train artists in concepts and exercises essential to building powerful portraits in oil.
Artists will learn the fine points of portraiture from anatomy and structure to paint handling and more. Guided with demonstrations and instruction at the easel students will become well versed in drills and portrait principles that will inform and improve their studio work for years to come.

Drawing and Painting the Nude: The Long Pose
Course Description:
Individual coaching with your particular drawing and or painting practice. Painting students will be encouraged to draw with the brush in full color. Each class begins with a half-hour of short drawing poses followed by one long pose which extends over 2 or 3 weeks.

Painting with Acrylics
Course Description:
This course offers a strong introduction to painting in which students learn about color mixing, painting techniques, and composition. Each student receives one-on-one instruction and everyone is encouraged to develop personal themes. The focus of the class is exclusively Acrylics. Students will learn the specifics of this very rich technique, which can equal the wonders of oil when well-mastered.

The Art of Line: Mindful Drawing fore Observation & Expression
Course Description:
This course introduces a line-based method of observation to express structure, proportion, and relationships using intentional line work. Through guided observation exercises and simple line practice rooted in traditional Chinese art methodology, students develop line sensitivity, control, and the ability to construct form with clarity and intention.
Beginning Painting Through Color
Course Description:
Color is one of the primary building blocks of a good painting! Start at the beginning with a solid foundation of color usage. Color theory and science will be applied in beginning exercises.
Students will then learn to use color, value, color groupings and composition to create basic, dimensional still life paintings. Group lecture and individual instruction help students on their way to mastering color usage in painting.

Experimenting with Pastels and Color Theory
Course Description:
We explore the nature of pastel and how to create wonderfully luscious, velvety texture. Learn about different types of pastels and techniques, while we briefly review composition, perspective, and color theory.

Painting Studio
Course Description:
Participate in a lively, interactive working environment. Develop paintings to a more finished, resolved statement, or address those challenges that impede forward movement. We will address skill development, use of materials, stylistic choices, personal imagery, and aesthetic content. Be prepared to work in the medium of your choice in the first class.
