Course Description:

This class is a contemporary look at drawing and/or painting the portrait and/or the figure through the examination of 20th and 21st century artists from Picasso to Eric Fischl and artists like Chuck Close. Students will be encouraged to explore and develop different directions in their art making. Using oil and acrylic paints or drawing materials, the live models provide practice for direct observation to begin an abstraction or to include in another painting/environment. The instruction is focused on individual goals with some in-class demonstrations and discussions. Each model pose is two weeks. This is a long pose class. Please bring newsprint, charcoal, and painting supplies to the first class.
