TELL ‘YOUR STORY’ WORKSHOP WITH KEVIN COVAL AT THE EVANSTON ART CENTER.

The Evanston Art Center is pleased to announce a special creative writing/spoken word workshop taught by Louder Than a Bomb: The Chicago Youth Poetry Festival creator and Artistic Director of Young Chicago Authors Kevin Coval.

WORKSHOP:  Creative Writing and New School Poetics with Kevin Coval

DATES:  Sundays, October 13th and 20th from 1- 4 p.m.

AGES: Adults and Youth (ages 15 and older). 

LOCATION: Evanston Art Center:  2603 Sheridan Road, Evanston, IL  60201

FINAL PRESENTATION:  Sunday, October 20, 3-4 p.m. Open to Public

Learn how to tell ‘your story’ from one of the most prolific and talented spoken word artists in the country, Kevin Coval. In his early twenties, Coval founded Louder Than a Bomb: The Chicago Youth Poetry Festival, now one of the largest youth gatherings on the planet. He’s the author of numerous poetry collections and chapbooks, including the American Library Association Book-of-the-Year finalist Slingshots: A Hip-Hop Poetica and most recently, L-vis Lives! Racemusic Poems, described as a “stunning, and very personal, piece of literary work that should be required reading in every high school in America” by Impose magazine. This workshop will focus in general on new writing, as well as tips on how to maintain a writing practice.  A final presentation of workshop attendees reading their work will be on Sunday, October 20th at 3:00 p.m. at the Evanston Art Center.  The final presentation is open to the public.  The workshop is open to Adults and Youth (ages 15 and older).
