Welcome to the Figure Sculpture Department!
We provide a space for students of all backgrounds, from novice to professional artist, to share the creative experience of figure sculpting. Whether you become inspired by life models, or you are drawn to abstract or organic form, you will have the opportunity to explore the medium in a supportive and instructive environment.
We offer a variety of classes, some with one- to three-week model poses to focus on sculpting the human form. Other classes do not have models, allowing you to focus on your own individual sculpting project.
Our faculty members have been professional artists and teachers for many years. They instill the freedom to learn and create various sculpture techniques and methods to create unique clay images.
We provide you with all of the tools needed to create, fire, and enhance your work. We use two groggy, sculpture specific stoneware clays: a red clay fired to cone 6, and a buff body that can be fired to cone 10 (the default firing is about cone 2). We also supply sculpting tools and boards to create your work on, as well as multiple kilns for firing and a variety of sculpture stands, patinas and glazes to enhance your sculptures.
Figure Sculpture students enjoy the clean, bright, professional atmosphere in which you can create your art. Our studios have a unique set-up with revolving model stands and revolving student sculpture stands.
