Course Description:
A meditative way to transform our movements and gestures into brush marks on paper, awakening creative flow and resulting in unusual artwork in the spirit of Zen.
The "Dancing Brush" method is based on the art of Zen and the Abstract Expressionism movement. It is an intuitive way to awaken our creativity. Here the movement of our arm and hand as well as gesture guide our brush. We follow the dance of the brush, and it leads us into the unknown riches of the hidden creativity. We use Sumi ink and brushes of varied sizes, we make marks, we experiment and play, we paint together and apart. As the process develops, we might introduce elements of collage and found 2D objects from our everyday. Interaction is a part of our process. We will work in groups of two, freely adding and changing elements that are already on paper. Layering, collaging, and even venturing into 3D are possible. We start art making in black & white, but some limited color could be added later if desired.
At the end of the workshop, we view everybody's work, move it around to create inspiring compositions, photograph them, and talk about the process that the participants went through.
