On View June 27 - July 29, 2026
Chicago-based, Indian-born artist Rina Akolawala translates her global travels into vibrant abstract landscapes. Working across oils, inks, mixed media, and acrylics, she captures the essence of diverse locales—from European countrysides to South American waterfalls, from farmlands of Iowa to the Indian subcontinent—emphasizing the interplay of light on land and water. Her recent work uniquely blends spiritual iconography with natural scenery, depicting ethereal representations of Lord Ganesha, the Indian Hindu God of wisdom and new beginnings. These pieces incorporate landscape elements, reflecting Ganesha's invocation at the start of new ventures.
Akolawala's work has been exhibited at The Bungalow Collective (Brooklyn, NY), One Of a Kind Show (Chicago, IL), West Loop Contemporary Fine Art Expo (Chicago, IL), Florence Gallery (Evanston, IL), Zhou B Art Center (Chicago, IL), and Winnetka Community House (Winnetka, IL).
