Art School: Ceramics
Students of all levels will learn to create pottery and develop a solid understanding of ceramics, learning and using hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Multiple glazing and surface treatments will be explored, such as colored slips, terra sigillata, and Majolica glazing and more. The Art Center offers the widest variety of firing methods in the Chicago area, including High Fire Reduction, Soda, Raku, Saggar, and Pit Firing.
All ceramic classes include free monitored studio time throughtout the week. Studio time is dependent upon studio and monitor availability. Class fees include glazes and firings. Clay may be purchased through the ceramics department.
The Art Center Ceramics Department is located at 2603 Sheridan Road. Please bring tools (basic pottery toolkit), towel, and a small bucket to your first class and be ready to work.
