Explore images on fabric with various shades of indigo blues applying Shibori resist and Natural Indigo dyeing. Indigo dye has been applied to clothes and interiors for over 700 years in Japan, though the harmonious beautiful colors appear contemporary in modern textile designs. Students will experience Itajime Shibori technique (folding & clamping), then submerge resisted fabrics in the natural indigo pot. Lovely indigo blue colors are perfect for “art to wear”. Twisting & wrapping (Arashi Shibori) and stitching (Nui Shibori) will be explained. Instructor will present visual resources and samples, and briefly cover some of the history of techniques.
