Course Description:

Attention Roycemore JST students! This class will combine art and technology to create uniquely designed projects on Evanston Art Center's laser engraver. Laser engraving takes advantage of a high power laser to etch the surface and cut through a variety of materials. In this 3-week class that meets on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, we'll cover all the steps in preparing your digital file for output on the EAC Maker Lab's laser engraver. Students will learn how to use the laser engraver, design files for print, and have the opportunity to cut, etch and engrave their designs onto wood and plastics. We'll cover a variety of 2D and 3D software that will let the students create objects, including keychains, signs and 3D models. Scheduled open lab hours to work outside of class time are included! Students will receive a written evaluation of their work as well as recommendations on art exhibits or maker spaces to visit in the Chicago area.
