Course Description:

There is a long history of artists exploring and developing their ideas through the use of the sketchbook. In this class, students will use the sketchbook to learn core drawing techniques. Using pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, and watercolor, they will discover the ways sketchbooks can be used for brainstorming and problem solving for larger, more complex works of art. During the class, they will be creating their own sketchbook, using the Japanese Four hole binding technique. By taking a look at the history of the artist sketchbook, they will discover how to develop their ideas through this versatile medium.
