Course Description:

Everyone seems to be able to recognize Impressionist works, but the details and context are not always known. We’ll start with the basics: What exactly was it anyway? Why did it arise in Paris, in the later 1800s? What was new about the paintings and prints called "Impressionist"? Their form? Their ideas? Or both? Grapple with these issues in group discussion as you become familiar with the art works and the circumstances in which they were made. The EAC is pleased to welcome Holly Clayson to our faculty. Holly is a renowned art historian, professor emerita from Northwestern University, and longtime EAC printmaking student.
