In the Community
The Evanston Art Center has always been a community-minded organization. We participate in events such as the Ethnic Arts Fair, the Fountain Square Arts Festival and the Citizens for a Greener Evanston Weekend by offering free arts activities.
We helped initiate the "Art Under Glass" program in downtown Evanston which installed artworks by local artists in windows of downtown retail spaces that had been vacated.
We partner with schools in after-school arts programs and Evanston's Youth Job Center with arts administration internships. We have organized arts activities in hospital settings such as Rush Behavioral Health, as well as senior residences.
Our ongoing collaboration with Northwestern University's work-study program is in its 10th year and continues to be a successful partnership. Over the course of a school year, more than 20 students work in various arts administrative positions helping the Art Center meet its growing needs while at the same time learning valuable on-the-job skills. Most of the students who come to us freshman year stay with us throughout their Northwestern education.
Additionally, we award 70 need-based Art School scholarships and financial aid packages throughout the year to community residents.
Our ongoing commitment to engage an even broader audience in meaningful ways will lead to new community partnerships and initiatives.
