All levels of experience will explore the exciting techniques of painting on silk using beautiful fiber reactive dyes that have a unique richness and color radiance. The class will focus on the process of gutta resist in addition to other approaches and concepts for design and imagery.

SUPPLIES

Please bring these items to the first class:
4 (1” x 2”) furring strips or a wooden stretcher, metal pushpins, hammer,4 C-clamps (at least 2” deep), wide masking tape (2” or 3”).
Consider the size of the silk painting when choosing a wooden frame for your work.

The following list will be discussed on the first class:
Dyes—Tinfix Design, Dupont and Jacquard Silk are the best (don’t buy Dye-na-Flow)
Brushes—a variety of sizes will help (sm.,med.,lg.) - soft synthetics or bamboo
Rubbing alcohol
Masking tape—2 or 3 inches is best
Metal pushpins
Paper towels
Gutta resist—water or spirit based
Gutta applicator bottle
Gutta tip—goes with the applicator bottle
White plastic palette or white ice cube tray
Small bottle of solvent (for spirit based resist) Silk—your choice
2 (1” x 2”) furring strips cut to size—your choice
4 C-clamps—at least 2 or 3 inches deep
Hammer
Eye dropper
Plastic tub or bag to put supplies in
Scissors
Drawing pad and pencils, markers, pens, etc.
Sm. jars or plastic containers
